Questions, answered

The honest version
What is Commit?

A communication app where you can't post right now. You write the thing, you pick the moment it goes out, and it goes out, exactly then. No unsend, no edit, no quiet delete at 3am.

The idea is simple: when you can't take it back, you only say things you actually mean.

Can I edit or delete something after I've committed it?

No. That's the entire product. Once it's sealed, it cannot be edited and it cannot be deleted.

The only way to stop it is to cancel it, and cancelling is not free, because it's supposed to be the harder choice.

What happens if I change my mind?

You can take it back, at the price you set yourself when you sealed it, back when you were still brave. Your circle sees that you cancelled, but not what you were going to say.

Going through with it is always free. The only thing that ever costs you is the flinch.

Does cancelling actually charge my card?

Not today. Right now, cancellation amounts are recorded but not actually charged, the number goes on your record, no money moves. See Terms, section 6.

If that ever changes, you'll be told before it does, not after.

What is Double Down?

An optional add-on, and it's off unless you switch it on. Turn it on and the cost of backing out doubles for the final five minutes before your post goes live.

You get one warning right before that window opens. If you didn't turn Double Down on, your price never moves and you'll never get that warning, nothing creeps up on you.

What are circles?

Your people. Post to a circle and everyone in it gets it, and anyone in it can post back to the same circle. Everybody in a circle knows they're in it, and anyone can leave.

The person who made it runs it, and can disband it.

What are letters?

An actual letter, for when a message isn't enough. You write it, it gets sealed with wax, and it lands in the other person's hands in an envelope they have to break open to read. You can tuck a photo inside.

Like everything else here, it ships on the schedule you set, and you can't unsend it.

Is this one of those "punish yourself" apps?

No, and we're deliberate about that. Nothing bad happens when you go through with it. There's no penalty for keeping your word, no forfeit, no shaming you into doing the thing.

Commit isn't a stick. It's just a way to make your words count by making them permanent.

Who can see what I post?

Whoever you chose when you sealed it, the people who follow you, or a specific circle, or one person, if it's a message or a letter.

What you can't do is decide later. The audience is part of the commitment.

How do I delete my account?

In the app: Settings → Delete account. It closes immediately.

Locked out, or already deleted the app? Request it here, that page also spells out exactly what gets removed and the little we keep.

Anything you'd scheduled is stopped and never delivered.

Something's broken. Who do I talk to?

A human reads every message. Write to us on the support page, or email hello@sayitpostitcommitit.com.

Still deciding whether to send it? That feeling is the product working. Send it.
